And the Winners are…

Friday, January 13th, 2006

The 12 days of Christmas is over (finally)! And I’m happy just as much as you are. Naturally it’s being ended on January 12th…. I just had to throw in some irony.

So Who won?

In ascending order. Here they are:

1) Welcome Home. Click Here
Worst SEO Tips ever.
Sarven Capadisli
http://www.csarven.ca/
Sarven just had some solid answers.

2) JavaScript Search Play in Object Notation
Yahoo vs Google in 50 words
Elliot Swan
http://www.elliotswan.com/
I picked Elliot because he knows Yahoo! concentrates on people, and not just technology for the sake of it.
And by the way, Yahoo! receives the most traffic in the world. Google is sixth in line (behind MySpace.com I might add!).

3) You become what you practice
Worst re-design of a major website?
Wench
http://www.techwench.com/
Wench laid it down and straight up said My Yahoo! sucked (with good reasons). I agree.

4) Easier DOM Walking with cleanWhiteSpace
Come up with a joke that has the words “clean”, “white”, and “space”.
Paul
Paul pretty much summed up the three saying that “clean” and “whitespace” are two qualities not found in his briefs. That’s just good humor.

5) Unobtrusive Degradable Ajax Style Sheet Switcher
Yoda vs Willow
Nate Cavanaugh
http://alterform.com/
I chose Nate’s answer on this because I was secretly waiting for someone to pick willow. And was in fact, most creative. It was even funnier that he thought willow was a tree! If anyone was wondering, I was talking about Willow from the movie: Willow.
Willow was a short little midget who lived in the woods and eventually went on to becoming a sourcerer using a twig as a wand and saving his village.

6) Styling inputs
Come up with a make-believe band. Name it. And give Five sample tracks
Sammy
Sammy’s answer was just too damn creative to pass up.

7) How to deal with Negative Comments
Flinstones vs Jetsons?
Tony Summerville
http://www.exit404.com/
I was actually waiting to hear why the Flinstones were better, and Tony mentioned that the Flinstones were the first couple on television to sleep together.

8) Centering a webpage without the wrapper div
Describe a hypothetical tag-team cage match-up between Jeffrey Zeldman and Molly Holzschlag vs Eric Meyer and Rachel Andrew
Derek Brown
http://www.desertfather.com/
Derek summed up a match of how the four would just sit in the middle of the ring and talk about Microformats along with other ‘oh so typical’ tasks that are in their character.

9) Hide that Sidebar
Give a great match on Googlefight.com
Dante
http://pianoman.wordpress.com/
Dante mentioned Me vs Cameron Diaz - something that hit home since I joke about her a lot as being a cousin who never speaks to me.

10) Collapsable Effects with Script.aculo.us
Write an ode to my underwear
Raanan Avidor
http://www.murphys-laws.xom/
Raanan’s answer had me at lingerie being a lovely meal.

11) Surface level tips for Good API Writing
Write an Ode to my first job
Jim A
http://www.auldridges.com
Jim wrote a fancy little ode about his term he gave in the service.

12) Reveal Your Hidden Talents to MC Diaz
Looking for the best hidden talent:
Jason Beard
http://www.jasongraphix.com/
This was a unanimous vote. Jason pulled a Numa Numa and I fell off the chair. You rock!

And thanks to all!

I hope everyone enjoyed the brief articles and perhaps found some useful. I’ll be sending out emails to the winners to collect addresses so don’t you worry.

Cheers to 2006!

Ooohhhhh…I won the book I was desiring most out of the offered prizes! Can’t beat that.

I thought I had the underwear one, though. But when Raanan wrote about “Treausres of love”, I knew it was all over for me! Too funny man.

    Congrats all!

    –Jim

  2. Nate Cavanaugh

    Holy shnikeys, I won!
Wow, that is freaking awesome :D Thanks Dustin, that is incredibly generous of you, as well as really cool.

Again, I am stunned, thank you :)

  3. Tony Summerville

Yay! Useless trivia knowledge comes through for me again!

Thanks Dustin, for putting this on & for being so generous with the prizes. You getting a bulk discount for all these books?

  4. Jim A.

I must apologize profusely for not saying thanks in my post as well. I was so wrapped up in Raanan’s joke that I didn’t get that into the post. So…

THANKS DUSTIN! You are awesome! I know this took a lot of time for you to put on, and is funded out of your own pocket. It’s appreciated.

    –Jim

  5. Elliot Swan

Sweet, thanks! Looks like a cool book…

There were some good articles and discussions that took place in this series. And of course, if this hadn’t happened we may never have seen Numa Numa done with a cow bell.

  6. Wench

Holy crap! I actually won something? I forgot I even answered that one, too. All I was thinking about was how if Jason didn’t RULE day 12, I was going to seriously be pissed off at you.

    Domo arigato, Mr. Roboto!

  7. Jason Beaird

w00T! I won a book on podcasting. I guess that means I’ll have to podcast. :) Thanks Dustin and thanks Wench!

  8. Sarven Capadisli

Sweetness… /me love you long time!

Thank you for the good contest all around.. When I first discovered your blog, I couldn’t remember your name for the first little while for some reason, but only your last name (rather easy to remember since there was an association to be made with a certain cute/hot actress).

Oh.. while the contest was still running I had a good feeling that Dante would grab that one.

  9. Dante

Wow. I never win contests like these, Dustin. (That address again is theboss3 at gmail dot com).

  10. Wesley Walser

A very nice set of new articles Dustin, and congrats to all who won.

  11. Dustin Diaz

I’m glad everyone is excited! I had fun putting it on and hoped you would too. Now I’m just sitting around thinking of new stuff to write about for the future. Surely enough something will come to mind.

In the mean time… *turns up the volume* numa numa yea, numa numa yea, numa numa numa yea…
