Excuse me?
Today I looked in my referrer logs and found a disturbing post about my site from a none-too-flattering weblog that does nothing but rant about designs. This site is called You Suckss. I have nothing to say except, bite my ass. If you feel the same, please drop ‘em a line or just directly comment on his website about my particular entry.

You realize that it is going to turn out that some “famous” web designer is behind this site, right?
My favorite tidbit from the site: the word “choiced.”
But it’s all a farce. Nobody who spells “deceives” correctly uses the non-word “choiced” except on purpose.

Amazing that a website using the standard issue wordpress template has the chutzpah (that’s yiddish for balls) to tell someone else their design sucks.

We’re all entitled to our opinions though, are we not? ;)
You can’t honestly take this sort of thing very seriously. I mean, if you put yourself out there then you better have some thick skin.
Some bright fellow once said:
You can please all people some of the time.
You can please some people all of the time.
But you can never please all people all of the time.

Light colors on gray are bad? (click my name)

When I first saw your design change, I wasn’t terribly fond of it, but after using it for a little while, I love it. It makes things easy to read.
I think the problem is that it’s so different from just about everything else out there (it’s OK to start trends though)

I don’t find too many credible and professional people who use free sites. Sounds like someone’s just looking for a few extra clicks and targeting big name sites will do that. That just means I’m a nobody because I’m not on there. ;)

Oh the irony.

I happen to like your site design, and like other have commented here, can they really trash talk your site when the use the default wordpress theme, seems obvious they can’t design anything! Those who can’t, criticize I suppose. Keep up the good work and excellent articles.

It’s good they warn about not being a serious site. That way a 31-word “critical” (only 10 of them really criticizing) doesn’t disappoint.
Too bad the only humor I found is the groundbreaking layout and color scheme of that “layout and color scheme critique” site.
See there? I just criticized the content, the color scheme *and* the layout, all in one. Ok. Two. Dude.

As someone who has been the target of many non-deserved (and a few deserved) flames, may I suggest just letting this one go.
Laugh it off, take a deep breath and move along. :)

I’m posting my comments here, because I bet the one’s I posted on their site won’t get past the Moderator…even though I havn’t been crass or rude :-)
Here goes…
I’m not going to flame Dunstan. His content and site are always great work. Although, I did prefer the previous style…sorry Dunstan. This just goes to show that everyone’s view on what constitutes good style or design is different….Not right or wrong, just different.
It’s interesting to me that this site “yousuckss” obviously is a case of “those that can…do, those that can’t critique”. There is no content of value here, the site owner can’t even seem to post without spelling and grammar errors. For someone who loves to say what is good and bad about others designs why does this site use a bulk standard wordpress theme that lacks any imagination or flair.
A word for the folks behind yousuckss … Yep, you do indeed suck!

And I guess I should have word checked my post…sorry about the name Dustin (Dunstan LOL :-) )

He’s linkbaiting you…

For the very little that it’s worth considering you likely have no idea who I am, I hate the new look. There are a few too many recent design tics happening all at once for my taste. But it’s your site and this is presumably what you want it to look like. The execution is pretty much flawless, and that has to be respected.
As for that other site, meh. It’s some tw(i|a)t who can only manage to be incendiary enough to irritate without providing anything to actually respond to. Put up a “Don’t feed” sign and move along.

Well, I like it. Reminds me of old-school monitors! Especially the code content.

Ok, first off, I’m closing the comments on this entry before things get too out of hand. That’s partly my fault for drawing attention to it as a “featured post.”
Second, I don’t know who this person is nor do I really care, nor am I bothered to learn more about this person. In fact, I’d rather just let this whole thing go and pretend it never happened. Clearly I speak to a different crowd, and what it comes down to is this: People do not come to my site not for design inspiration. I am not a designer - and I’ve duely noted that in perhaps several articles on this site, and definitely in my podcasts. Clearly the focus of this site is on the content. After all, we should all indeed know that Content is King. Is my site broken? No. Can you get the information you need? Yes. Then good, my design has succeeded. While we’re all at it, why don’t we tell Douglas Crockford and Simon Willison that their design sucks too.
The fact of the matter is, this site does not exist to impress you with its design. So there’s no need to feature it on your “look at me point out the flaws of others” website. By the way, good luck with that.
One final thing, I noticed a list of links on the sidebar of this website (referring to a bunch of CSS galleries). After meeting with Alex Giron (CSSBeauty) I don’t think he would approve of that site. I know a couple of the other folks as well who run Stylegala and they would indeed also think what you’re doing is lame. Not to mention, CSSMania seems to have liked what I’ve done with my site ;)
If you want to discuss this further, feel free to drop me an email.
