WSwI on hiatus

Thursday, July 20th, 2006

These are the kind of posts I never enjoy reading on other blogs - and to admit straight up front, I just don’t read. But for those of you that are actually interested in what’s going on around here, this is what’s happening.

I’ve been busy. There. That’s it. Unfortunately all those things I love doing on my personal site has taken the most damage. But I’m ok with that. So far the biggest thing I’ve been neglecting has been the podcast but rest assured, I do indeed plan on starting that back up… I didn’t buy all this equipment for nothing.

On a positive note, I have a redesign of WSwI sitting around that I haven’t quite finished yet. I’ve showed some close friends that have given me some good feedback as I’m trying to incorporate mature design with some very pretty looking JavaScript. I’m ditching the green and orange (someone told me they’re exact opposites (and they don’t go well together) and I believe that person).

Other than that, Cameron Adams, Jonathan Snook and myself have been trying to get on a panel for SXSW 07… we’ll see how that goes. I mean c’mon, who wouldn’t want to see Cameron Diaz up on stage along with a big Canadian dude?

    “Cameron Diaz” — that’s great! Can’t wait to see the new version of WSwI.

    But for those of you that are actually interested in what’s going on around here, this is what’s happening.

    var Jim = new WSwI_fanboy();
    Jim.setInterested(true);
    Jim.stayTuned(’infinite’);

    WYSIWYG, WSWI in a busy spell

    “(someone told me they’re exact opposites (and they don’t go well together) and I believe that person).”

    You might want to question that person…

    Purple and green are exact opposites, and blue and orange are exact opposites.

    And blue and orange go together quite nicely if you’re looking to create some contrast.

    Just a heads up :)

  5. Jim

    Purple and yellow are complementary, and red and green are complementary. But you were right about blue and orange.

    My offer still stands. ;P

    The panel sounds cool…Where were you at webvisions today? C’mon, surely you could’ve gotten Yahoo to fork over some cash.

    Tell *me* about it :D

    And Dustin, we’ll be here when you come back ;)

    Dustin,

    Thats good to hear. I was wondereing why the last podcast was in may :). Also as Nate (comment 7155) said Blue and Orange are opposites and they do go nicely together (see: http://www.whatsyourfactor.com/). You’ll recognize that site that is where I premiered your AJAX Contact form days after it went ‘public’.

    Cameron Diaz - I’d definately come to see that!

    Sorry to hear about the busy spell Dustin. As you know, I’m in the midst of one too…but hopefully once all this busy dust settles there’ll be some cool products and fun times ahead. In the mean time, I’ve created another early morning video cast to entertain the WSwI masses. In it, I explain what “exact opposites” means in regards to color combinations. Nate took a good swing at the topic, and Jim was right on with the complementary colors, but I thought I’d take the conversation a step further with the help of a color wheel, a wooden dummy, and my iSight camera. Enjoy…
    Show me the vodcast.

    Noooooooo! Don’t redesign the site!

    Your site is bookmarked in my /Graphic Design/Beautiful & Effect/ folder… one of only six chosen from the entire internets.

    Damn dude - it took a while for me to get used to it, but I’ve grown to love your current design. Please don’t stop blogging for long, you and Chris H have been a great inspiration to my JS work the past few months.

  12. Dustin Diaz

    This is a rare design that has grown on some over time - but believe it or not, it’s show up on three different “ugly site” lists! Since that was never my intention and I figured that would be like saying Simon Willison’s website was ugly - I knew I had to change things up.

    As soon as I fix up the frontpage for Internet Explorer 6, I’ll let the world have a peak.

  13. Elliot Swan

    Do you really have that many IE users?

  14. Dustin Diaz

    @Elliot: Yes, I do. 34% to be quite exact. That’s too much to ignore.

  15. Elliot Swan

    Wow, that is quite a lot…Somewhat surprising. I’ve got 21% IE users myself, though I believe that most of those are just coming through random searches (who knows, though).

  16. Jason Beaird

    Unfortunately search engine traffic kills my statistics. Over 64% of my visitors are IE users. Ugg.

  17. Timothy Rosenberg

    Exactly 46% of mine are IE users. I wish I could ignore them… but like Dustin, I can’t.
