Yahoo! Go: The new Front Row

Tuesday, April 25th, 2006

Today Yahoo! launched a new product called Yahoo! Go TV for your home TV entertainment, and I must say, this is the freshest thing to hit windows like Front Row is to Mac. And I do indeed admit that Front Row is pretty slick as I’ve been enjoying my new Mini for a couple of months; seeing as how it comes with a dandy remote, but for anyone without a mac, you definitely need to check this thing out.

And not only does it do the media on your computer

Indeed, it’s integrated with your Yahoo! ID. Got photos on Yahoo!? Wanna share them with the fam in front of the TV? Y! Go is for you.

Got music with Yahoo!? Wanna have that playlist where everyone can see and listen to it? Go is for you.

Got Tivo? Oh yea. Even Go is for you as you can manage your recorded shows with this bad boy.

Other goodies

Aside from all of “your content” there are often times you just want “new content,” and indeed it comes with all the Yahoo! packed content as well such as Yahoo! Sports videos, the latest news stories, music videos, it even lets you do live media searches on the Y! search platform when you have your internet connection.

All in all, it really is, in my own opinion, a clone of Front Row (this is a good thing), but offers the personal integration with Yahoo! services. Not to mention, hey, you can use it on Windows!

Nuff said, get Go now and check it out for yourself and give some feedback.

“We’re sorry, Yahoo! Go for TV is currently available inside the U.S. only, for Windows®-based systems.”

Mind you, it doesn’t support a Mac anyway, so I’d only have been playing with it on a spare PC.

Norm! Where the hell ya been! I’ve been trying to contact you on IM since… Austin. But yea, ditto on the windows/tivo thing. For what it’s worth, it’s still pretty cool on your desktop for everything else.

OK, all very well and good, but where is my new Yahoo! Mail?! And my new Yahoo! home page! After seeing all sorts of screen shots around, I reeeally can’t wait for those two.

Those are most definitely right around the corner. However I really really can’t talk about them at all.

Well speaking of right around the corner, guess who just got into Yahoo! Mail Beta today! :D

I’ve been aching for a reason to switch from Gmail. We’ll see how this goes.

Yahoo e-mail system is far older, much better than Gmail, it’s still a long way to go for Google to deliver similar quality with e-mail systems.
